hi.  i wish this community were active.  well, i wrote a something, kind of a poem, kind of a rap.  i will be performing it at the above show.  also, neil ardently, a member of this community, wrote something and will be performing it.  i don't really want y'all to be rude this time.  i'm just pimping a show that my friends and i are throwing, like when the bradys put up snow white in their back yard.  only this is to send a Phoole to Great Britain.

02:21 pm - denim
I rub my thigh and
Split my mind:
The feel of denim
Under my palm
Rubbing thin the
Denim of his thigh
Even as my hand
Is his rubbing mine.

12:01 pm - The Sock (a fiction)

I threw away The Sock this weekend .. you’d left it behind your last night here, I found it under the bed, over on the wall side, when I moved, and should have thrown it away, as it had been there for more than a year, and you probably had thrown away its partner (no irony intended) long ago, but instead I stuck it in a sack of miscellaneous things, not with my own socks, but some washcloths and half a box of Band-Aids and a brass candle stick and when I unpacked everything I threw it in the back of my bottom drawer with the yellow swim suit that I don’t remember buying or ever wearing and it stayed there for another year until I cleaned out my dresser last spring and threw away old tee-shirts from concerts and summer camps that I attended in some previous existence and would have thrown away The Sock but it occurred to me that it had survived two years without you (and so had I ) and that it had now been with me longer than you had which is when I moved it into the drawer of my bedside table, where it was only a matter of time until, well, you don’t need to know how it has been abused for the past 3 months, but the point is that this weekend, finally, I threw it away.

11:44 am - dentists, doctors and hair stylists
As her maid-of-honor stood behind her, buttoning
up the back of her silky white dress, she was torn
between the scholarly knowledge of timesgone-by
when the rich and socially favored did very little
to care for their own bodies but instead had women
who dressed them as she was being dressed today,
and the only real word experiences she’d had
in which another person had been responsible
for tending to her body
which included dentists,
doctors and
hair stylists.

10:56 am - MY RADIO
THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDFATHER'S RADIO.
THIS IS NOT YOUR PARENT'S RADIO, OR YOUR KID SISTER'S.
THIS IS NOT YOUR RADIO.

THIS IS MY RADIO.

MY RADIO IS MY PHONOGRAPH AND MY PHOTO ALBUM.

THIS IS MY RADIO WHEN I AM STUCK IN TRAFFIC, TUNING AND TUNING AND TUNING.
THIS IS MY RADIO WHEN I AM DRIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT, TUNING AND TURNING AND TUNING.
THIS IS MY RADIO WHEN I CAN'T SLEEP, TOSSING AND TURNING AND TUNING.

MY RADIO IS MY MEMORY AND MY MOVING VAN.

SOMETIMES I PLAY MY RADIO LOUD AND ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN.
SOMETIMES I PLAY MY RADIO BENEATH A WHISPER SO I DON'T WAKE YOU.

MY RADIO IS MY SHAKESPEARE AND MY SHADOW.

MY NAME IS NEIL MONK,
AND THIS IS MY RADIO.

THE BEST PART OF MY RADIO
IS THAT NO ONE CAN HEAR MY RADIO BUT ME ...

... WHAT'S ON YOUR RADIO???

09:01 am - Lisa Weed
Listen up, my child:
In a moment you shall hear
Sounds of happy laughter
And the falling of a tear

Little does it matter
If the laugh or tear came first
Since the laughter is a hunger
And the crying is a thirst

When there's one, there is the other
Every happy has a sad
Every light requires darkness
Doesn't good depend on bad?

Let us laugh and cry together
Into one we'll make the two
So they'll always be together
As I'd wish for me and you.

02:04 pm - closet
The girl who lives in my closet has a baby, but I don’t know who’s looking after him. Maybe his father? Or her parents? When she asked if she knew a place where she could “chill it” I offered my closet and when she accepted without any questions, it seemed rude to ask a lot of questions of her.

02:51 pm - the pickup
He smelled like turpentine.
She smelled like Mr. Bubble.
Her drink was good red wine.
His a vodka double.
He thought that she looked fine.
She thought he looked like trouble.
He improvised a line.
She gently stroked his stubble.
